VAULTS | Presentation and Q+A with Gabriella Gama and Filipe Lourenço

  • Bakehouse Art Complex 561 Northwest 32nd Street Miami, FL, 33127 United States (map)

It appears that everything today occurs beneath false ceilings. Contemporary architecture has diminished the significance of the ceiling, considering it merely a technical element that conforms to norms and regulations. However, throughout history, the architectural element of the ceiling has served as a means of spatial expression for communities around the world.

Referencing selected projects, architects Gabriella Gama and Filipe Lourenço of Apparatus Architects consider the notion of the ceiling as a major agent of transformation in a space. During their conversation, they propose to reinterpret its history and context through the transformation of the archetype of the vault, aspiring to create an environment that both inspires and resonates with those who inhabit it.

This series fortunately coincides with Bakehouse’s planning of its building renovation and campus expansion.
