Juan Luis Matos selected as artist laureate for the Bakehouse x Cité internationale des arts residency
Bakehouse Art Complex, Miami and the Cité internationale des arts, Paris are pleased to announce the selection of Juan Luis Matos as the 2025 Artist Laureate to benefit from a prestigious two-month residency in Paris this upcoming May and June 2025.

Artist Highlight: Rhea Leonard
Rhea Leonard is an African American multidisciplinary artist that uses drawing, printmaking, and sculpture within her art practice to explore the Black body and the complex reality of Black life in America. By focusing on the Black body, language and the viewer, and the broader Black community, she works to highlight the aspects that come with the pervasive, nuanced levels of racism, anti-blackness and microaggressions present in today’s American society. As well as celebrate Black culture throughout the African Diaspora.

Longtime Miami residents Maria and Ronald Temkin have been enthusiastic supporters of Bakehouse for decades. While they don’t consider themselves serious collectors, their passion for supporting young artists and the local creative community runs deep. Regular attendees of Open Studio programs and Bakehouse events, the Temkins believe in the power of art to shape communities and enrich lives.
