In Conversation: Amanda Linares on Between Islands and Peninsulas
Join Curatorial + Public Programs Associate, Laura Novoa as she speaks with visual artist Amanda Linares about her installation Between Islands and Peninsulas, currently on view at the Bakehouse Art Complex. Through the use of text, images, poetry, and found objects, Linares reflects on her journey from Havana to Miami in 2013 and explores themes of identity, memory, displacement, absence, and reconnection.
The conversation will focus on Linares’ multi-disciplinary practice and her varied use of materials to create works that are simultaneously delicate yet durable. By using seemingly disparate mediums in individual works, Linares is able to convey the coexistence of contradictory feelings and ideas, which is made evident in the emotionally and formally complex artist books -- Todo Sigue Igual, Agua Salada, and Alternative Realities -- that are part of her installation.
