Partnering with Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Bakehouse artist Lauren Shapiro presents Molding the Future, a project that involves the creation of a site-specific ceramic sculpture to be displayed at Fairchild from June 1 - August 31, 2021.
To complete the sculpture, Shapiro will engage the local community though a series of hands-on, physically-distanced clay molding activities in the Bakehouse Art Complex garden.
Participants will contribute to the development of the artwork by pressing clay into silicone molds of plant textures gathered from Fairchild’s landscape. The clay textures will then be added to a larger modular sculpture created by the artist and exhibited at the Tropical Conservatory at Fairchild.
Participants are not required to have previous experience in ceramics.
