Artist News: June 2023

Bakehouse artists Luján Candria, Gonzalo Hernandez, Christina Pettersson, Judith Berk KingJennifer Printz, and Nicole Salcedo are participating in the exhibition Drawing from Nature at Pinecrest Gardens, on view June 4 to August 15.

Luján is also participating in the group show Small Things That Seem Eternal at Art Space 305, on view from June 8 to July 19.


Bakehouse artist Sandra Ramos is presenting her work in the solo exhibition Entropidoscopios: The Glitch at Lowe Art Museum, opening June 15.

Sandra is also participating in the group exhibition Lo que es, es lo que ha sido / What It is, Is What Has Been at Arizona State University Art Museum, closing September 17.

On June 21, Sandra will be participating in a film screening and artist talk at the Phoenix Art Museum.


Bakehouse artist Alberto Checa is one of two artists participating in the exhibition NUMBER 2 at Laundromat Art Space, on view from May 20 to June 30.

Bakehouse artists Adler Guerrier, Amanda Linares, Christina Pettersson, and Jillian Mayer have been named recipients of Coral & Cathers Artist Fund Awards!

Jillian Mayer is participating in a two-person exhibition Potentially Everywhere at SOCO Gallery, opening June 13.


Bakehouse artists Amanda Linares, Shawna Moulton, Jennifer Printz, Chire Regans, Cornelius Tulloch are also participating in a group exhibition as well, Draw: Point to Point, at the Frost Art Museum. The exhibition opens June 17.


Summer Open alumni Alejandra Moro’s debut solo exhibition Tip of the Tongue, Bridge of the Nose is on view at Spinello Projects from May 13 - June 24. The exhibition has been selected as an Artforum Critics’ Pick.

Bakehouse artists Maria Theresa Barbist and Chris Dougnac are participating in New World Gallery’s summer exhibition Intersections, opening June 23 and closing August 4.


Bakehouse artist Smita Sen is a recipient of the Artist Access Grant 2023, awarded by Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs.

Sen is also participating in a group show at La MaMa Galleria, as part of the NEW INC Demo 2023.


Bakehouse artist Gabriela Gamboa’s book A Study of Dust has been acquired by The W. Van Alan Clark, Jr. Library, School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University and by the University of Miami Special Collections.


Bakehouse artist Christine Cortes is participating in The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum’s first summer semester exhibition, How We Remember. The exhibition opened May 10 and will be on view through September 12.

Bakehouse artist Valeria Yamamoto is participating in Miami-Dade College’s faculty alumni exhibit Loose Threads, on view now at MDC North Gallery.


Summer Open alumni Chris Friday has been selected as the 2023 Florida Fellow for Visual Art for the South Arts Southern Prize and State Fellowships for Visual Arts program.


Summer Open alumni Arsimmer McCoy is featured in the Miami New Times.
