In Memoriam: Joe Gedeon

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Joseph “Joe” Gideon, our former building mason and campus guardian. He died peacefully on Monday, May 2, 2022 at the age of 93 surrounded by his family.

Words are insufficient to express the many ways he contributed to Bakehouse through his labor, love, and humor. For over 35 years, Joe devoted his life to the physical upkeep of our former bakery building and the spiritual wellbeing of the artists that inhabited it. He retired in August 2021 to spend the final chapter of his life with his loved ones in Georgia and northern Florida.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends who cared for him deeply. His legacy lives on in the work we do to build and strengthen our artist community. We will be honoring him by formally naming his former Bakehouse quarters after him to recognize his decades of extraordinary service to our organization.
