Photo Walk: Clara Toro
Join artist Clara Toro for her final photo walk of Bakehouse Art Complex’s surrounding neighborhood of Wynwood Norte. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the neighborhood from a photographic perspective, focusing on composition, lighting, and the elements of street photography. During the walk, the artist will share stories about this historic community, which she has been documenting for more than a year.
Presented in partnership with Roberto Mata School of Photography, this workshop is open to participants of all levels. Attendees are free to bring whatever camera equipment they wish to use: digital, film, or camera phone.
Please wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle!

About the exhibition
Comprising eighteen images by Bakehouse artist Clara Toro, Stakeholders: Wynwood Norte is a sample of a larger photographic project documenting the facades of single-family residences throughout the Wynwood Norte neighborhood. Toro’s images of homes surrounded by swings, inflatable pools, toys, tables, and chairs hint to the life of their occupants and capture the essence and character of the neighborhood over time.

About the artist
Clara Toro graduated with a degree in Industrial Design from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in 1987. In 1988, she moved to Montreal and then New York, attending both Université de Montreal and Pratt Institute, taking courses towards a Master’s degree in Industrial Design and Marketing. She moved to South Florida from New York in 1992, where she pursued a career as an educator from 1996 through 2008. Over the course of the last several years, she has dedicated herself full time to the study and practice of photography. Currently, she is the Director of Roberto Mata School of Photography and is enrolled in a one-year certificate course for Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism at the International Center of Photography (ICP).
About RMTF
Roberto Mata School of Photography Miami (RMTF) is an organization dedicated to imparting knowledge and discussing paradigms of photography as part of the visual arts. RMTF, which opened in 1993, has had over four thousands students, many of whom are still involved in photography and with the school.
