Bakehouse Artist News: March 2022
Bakehouse artist Maria Lino’s "Ritmos Ancestrales" from her long-term project Manos Trabajadoras was selected for the Smithsonian Institution's Mother Tongue Film Festival 2022. This on-going series of video portraits captures the poetry of the rhythms and domestic routines of women who engage in repetitive manual labor. The festival is being held virtually through March 4.
Bakehouse artist Gonzalo Hernandez is currently presenting work in Making Space, a group exhibition at the Allegheny Art Galleries in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The show brings together four artists who participated in the Erie Arts & Culture and Long Road Projects visiting artist residency program in 2020 and 2021.
Bakehouse artist Ale Moros is currently presenting work in I Do My Own Stunts, a group exhibition at Spazio Amanita in Los Angeles. The show celebrates a diversity of approaches from twenty women painters to form an open dialogue between powerful voices.
Starting March 5, Bakehouse artist Cornelius Tulloch will present a solo exhibition at Laundromat Art Space. Genesis reimagines Black domestic space as a cinematic stage for cultural performances and intergenerational dialogue.
Starting March 9, Bakehouse artist Lujan Candria will present work in a group exhibition at Surface Area Gallery. Woman Made is a celebration of visionary female leaders across different industries during Women’s History Month.
Starting March 19, Bakehouse artists Morel Doucet, Beatriz Chachamovits, and Lauren Shapiro will be presenting work in C[H]ORAL STORIES and COLLECTIVE ACTIONS, a group exhibition at the Art & Culture Center of Hollywood. Inspired by the powerful beauty and fragility of corals, eight artists will present their unique and diverse bodies of work to recognize the urgency of preservation.
