Family Day at The Underline

Join Bakehouse artists at The Underline for a day of exploration and learning. This month, celebrate the New Year and make way for new beginnings with activities designed by Bakehouse Art Complex artists intended to engage the five senses. This event is free to the public, but RSVP is encouraged.

Participating artists

Inspired by the art of tarot cards, Maria Theresa Barbist (Website) will teach you how to create your own personal card for the New Year.

Using cut-out techniques and multiple types of paper, Alyssa Andrews (Website) will help you make paper flowers inspired by plants that are native to our Florida ecosystem. 

Jose Luis Garcia (Website) will guide you through a bookmaking activity that ranges from simple to complex fold books. You will create “pocket books” that fit in your pocket and that you can keep handy for your adventures during the event!

Explore a traditional Japanese paper dyeing method (orizome-shi) and create your own beautiful and unique patterned papers inspired by Shawna Moulton’s (Website) travels to Tokushima, Japan.

Using paper, crayons, and leaves, Xavier Lujan (Website) will help you create relief drawings that reflect Miami’s natural plant life.
